Tell us about the prior industry experience that you bring to the table. What led you to foray into the field of finance?
My educational journey commenced with a focus on insurance, beginning with a vocational course during my schooling. Progressing to intermediate college, I continued to specialize in insurance, eventually securing employment at an insurance company at the age of 18. Supplementing my practical experience, I completed various certification courses in insurance, culminating in a B.Com degree and an MBA from IIM Kozhikode. The dynamic landscape of finance and insurance during my formative years captivated me, especially amidst significant industry reforms, motivating my entry into the BFSI sector.
Our expertise lies in curating bespoke learning experiences, bridging skill gaps for insurance professionals at all levels
With over 30 years of industry experience, I've traversed diverse roles, including a decade-long tenure at United India Insurance Company and pivotal involvement in establishing IFFCO Tokio General Insurance's presence in Hyderabad during its nascent stages. Specializing primarily in property and marine insurance, I've honed expertise in technical aspects alongside acquiring functional proficiencies such as underwriting, claims processing, marketing, and team leadership. Transitioning to training roles in 2017, I further expanded my skill set, to business coaching and consulting across multiple functions and strategic initiatives. My journey reflects a continuous pursuit of excellence and adaptability within the insurance domain.
What led you to found IRA Coaching? What was the underlying idea behind the venture?
The genesis of IRA Coaching stems from my personal journey, deeply influenced by mentors and a thirst for continuous learning. Recognizing the overwhelming information overload faced by modern-day professionals, particularly amidst the COVID era, I envisioned a platform to deliver targeted, relevant knowledge. Transitioning from a trainer to a certified business coach, I identified the gap in structured learning and development within the insurance sector. IRA Coaching emerged as a solution, offering a dynamic learning platform catering to individuals and corporations alike. Our expertise lies in curating bespoke learning experiences, bridging skill gaps for insurance professionals at all levels, thus fostering a culture of lifelong learning and growth.
Tell us about the various roles/responsibilities you shoulder as IRA Coaching's founder.
As Founder and CEO of IRA Coaching, I oversee a dedicated team of 22 professionals, managing the learning curriculum, internal operations, IT infrastructure, and design. Collaborating with subject matter experts, including industry veterans, we deliver training sessions to our participants. Driving growth, my primary focus lies in nurturing talent from the grassroots level. Through our IRA internship program, we provide comprehensive online internships to college students, exposing them to insurance awareness and igniting interest in insurance careers. With over 700 enrolled colleges, we aim to cultivate a pipeline of skilled professionals for the insurance industry, offering advanced level programs and facilitating job placements, thereby fostering sustainable growth and industry relevance.
What are some of the most critical challenges you encounter in your current role? What steps do you undertake to overcome these roadblocks?
Transitioning from in-person to online training presents significant challenges, despite our investment in robust tech platforms. Engaging participants virtually and ensuring commitment poses hurdles that we've addressed over our four-year journey. Our approach involves meticulous proctoring, attendance tracking, and real-time assessments to maintain quality. Additionally, we provide extensive support from enrollment to certification, ensuring a seamless experience. Continual refinement of our tech platform remains a priority to enhance effectiveness. While the shift to virtual learning is inevitable, adapting to its nuances remains an ongoing challenge, which we tackle through continuous improvement and innovation.
What has your success mantra been over the years?
My success lies not only in personal achievements but also in mentoring countless professionals who thrive in their careers today. My mantra centers on relentless self-challenge and learning from those who excel, perpetually striving to surpass perceived limits. For me, success knows no bounds when one consistently pushes beyond the comfort zone.
Any advice for aspiring women entrepreneurs/ business leaders?
My advice to aspiring women entrepreneurs and business leaders is to perceive obstacles as opportunities. Rather than seeing limitations, envision possibilities and stride confidently forward. Embrace your strength and unique perspective as a woman, affirming your equality and capability to shine in today's rapidly evolving world.
A business leader you admire: I admire Indra Nooyi and Smriti Irani for their exceptional balance of professional leadership and personal values. They embody a blend of strong professional acumen and nurturing their feminine perspective, demonstrating remarkable success while staying true to their authentic selves.
