What led you to venture into the field of IT Services? Take us through your expansive professional journey in the IT industry.

My journey into the realm of IT Services was unexpected yet driven by a passion for making a difference. It all began with a chance encounter in a computer lab, where I lent a hand to a struggling child. Little did I know, that moment would shape my career trajectory. Offered a faculty position by the director, I embraced the opportunity, diving into the intricacies of IT education. From Aptech to Tata Unisys, I honed my skills, driven by a thirst for knowledge. Transitioning to the corporate world, I delved into hardware and market dynamics, enriching my understanding of the industry.

My tenure at The Cathedral and John Connon School marked a pivotal shift, spearheading automation initiatives. Over several years, I orchestrated comprehensive transformations, from administrative processes to classroom integration. Today, as the CTO of B D Somani International School, I stand as a testament to the transformative power of technology, evolving from a consultant to a leader in IT management.

What are the various roles and responsibilities you shoulder as the CTO of BD Somani International School?

As the CTO of BD Somani International School, my role encompasses a comprehensive oversight of all technological aspects. From immediate needs to long-term strategies, I orchestrate resource allocation to propel the school toward its goals while ensuring the upkeep and enhancement of existing infrastructure. Initially, my focus was on modernizing IT infrastructure, implementing structured cabling for enhanced connectivity, centralized storage for efficient data management, and automating manual processes to streamline operations. Integrating technology into the curriculum for student enrichment involves extensive teacher training programs. Additionally, I prioritize sustainability, implementing measures to reduce the school's carbon footprint. Currently, our exciting plans include introducing iPads in the primary section, promising a transformative learning experience.

What are the key challenges as a tech leader today? How do you tackle them effectively?

As a technology leader navigating today's business climate, I encounter multifaceted challenges demanding both adaptability and resilience. The rapid pace of technological evolution necessitates continuous learning and evolution. Staying abreast of advancements entails constant engagement with vendors, rigorous study, and active participation in industry events. Moreover, as a woman in a predominantly male-dominated field, overcoming biases and stereotypes presents its own set of hurdles. Yet, I persist, motivated by passion and expertise, transcending barriers to assert my leadership. Steering projects from inception to completion entails collaborating with diverse stakeholders, from electricians to builders, navigating varied landscapes with finesse. Ultimately, knowledge and diligence emerge as my associates, guiding me through the ebbs and flows of the technological revolution.

My professional journey is punctuated by pivotal moments, each shaping my trajectory. Transitioning from faculty to leading school-wide automation marked my initial triumph. Witnessing widespread tech adoption was gratifying, epitomizing the convergence of passion and expertise. Throughout, my mantra has been to relish the journey, finding fulfillment in each step.
