It is expected to grow at a CAGR of 10.2 percent during the forecast period (2021–2030). The key factors responsible for the growth of the market include the increasing inclination toward spending on appearance, surging shift toward e-commerce, growing prevalence of skin diseases, and teens growing older at an early age. In an exclusive interview with Women Entrepreneur, Dr Jaishree delves deep into her journey that led to Skinfinitii.

Take Us Through Your Early Educational Journey And Prior Industry Experience That You Bring To The Table.

I have been in this field for the last 22 years. I studied MBBS and then completed PG in Dermatology. I accomplished a fellowship in Cosmetic Dermatology from Miami, USA and obtained fellowship in dermatologic laser surgery from Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, Bangkok.

I have had the privilege of having pioneered radiofrequency skin tightening and microneedling in India in 2005 and 2007 respectively.

I have been an International faculty at various American European and Asian conferences and workshops since 2007.

I super specialize in Botulinum toxin, Dermal fillers and Lasers and am an International trainer for the same. My work in Cosmetic Dermatology and Dermatosurgery has received accolades and given me numerous national and International awards.

Over the years, I have also authored two bestsellers, Skin rules and Skin Talks. Both the books were published by Penguin and released by Shri Amitabh Bachchan.

My third book is a textbook for dermatologists aspiring to be cosmetic dermatologists. It is called “Aesthetic Dermatology- Current perspectives”.

What Motivated You To Establish Skinfinitii? Tell Us About The Underlying Idea Behind The Clinic.

My motivation was to always help people. There was no ‘business model’ attached to it. Also, after completing my studies, I was working across different clinics and the travel took a lot of time. I was also not able to run around with the equipments that I specialize in. So, I decided to start my own clinic in Navi Mumbai, where I live. I was the first one to start a cosmetic dermatology clinic in Navi Mumbai. A lot of high-profile clients approached and got to know about me through recommendations.

Then, in 2006, a friend of mine suggested that I opened one in Bandra, since a lot of people from the suburbs were wanting to consult me and were finding it tough to travel to New Bombay. I started by consulting at a friend’s clinic in Bandra in 2006. In June 2008, I started Skinfinitii in a 300 sq feet place in Bandra. I was appreciated for the work I did and soon I was able to move to a 1300 sq feet place and finally to my present 3000 sqft space inon SV Road, Khar. Currently, I have five Doctors working with me in my clinic.

From not having money to buy a mixer-grinder or a cupboard or refrigerator to becoming a renowned name to be reckoned with, its been a humbling journey!

What Steps Do You Take To Keep Yourself Well Aligned With The Periodic Evolutions Occurring In The Field Of Dermatology? What Has Been The Driving Force Behind Your Success As A Business Leader?

I attend atleast four International Conferences in a year, to keep myself abreast with the latest in the field of Cosmetic Dermatology. Every 2-3 years, I spend a month in the US to understand newest techniques in the field of dermatology. I update myself through these conferences and employ the latest to enhance my current offerings.

Four people have been my driving force. First, is my mother. She passed away when I was in College but she was the foundation of who I am today. She instilled in me the importance of a woman being educated. Second, my father. He iswas super dynamic, intelligent, and a multi-tasker. He has always pushed me to do better. Third, my husband who is a gastro intestinal and bariatric surgeon. He has been my biggest cheerleader and support system through and through the ups and downs of both my professional and personal life. Last but not the least, is Shri Amitabh Bachchan. His life story, his inspiring blogs, and ideologies have taught me to be the person I am today. Today I know him personally and the feeling, is surreal!

In Your Opinion What Are Some Of The Most Significant Milestones That You Have Achieved In Your Professional Journey?

The awards that have come my way since I was a student have definitely been the milestones that motivated me to do better. Particularly, the first award I won as a student from the Indian Association of Dermatology, that came as a surprise and definitely is one of the the most significant milestones that I have achieved. Also, I was the first to bring ‘radio frequency skin tightening’ to India, and when I first spoke about this technology in 2006, things scaled up for me. Among others, I won the Prestigious “Rising Star Award” at the World Congress of Dermatology held in Vancouver in 2015.

Further, in 2016, I received awards for ‘best skin expert’ from both Vogue and Elle. I also won the “Best Celebrity Cosmetic Dermatologist” award in 2021.

Drawing From Your Experience, What Would Your Advice Be To Young Women Aspiring To Become Business Leaders?

Dr, Abdul Kalam once said, ‘dream with your eyes open’ and I have lived by that. Do not look at quick fixes, work toward your goal with sincerity and honesty Be focused, dedicated and perseverant. Also remember, you cannot do it alone, so you need to build a team that loves working with you. Lastly, do not stop learning. Knowledge has no boundaries, so keep learning and keep improving your skills.
