Driven by an insatiable thirst for knowledge and personal growth, Hemlata pursued a Master of Computer Applications while working full-time as a teacher. Her educational journey stands as a testament to her resilience and determination in taking charge of her own learning and career, overcoming challenging circumstances. Guide us through your extensive professional journey within the IT and software development sector. What were some of the pivotal lessons learned during these 18 years?
My professional path has been marked by various challenges and triumphs. Initially facing the seemingly insurmountable task of securing an IT position without a conventional tech background, I embarked on a journey of self-improvement. Research led me to a 6-month software engineering program specializing in .NET and Java. Equipped with newfound skills, I began applying for IT roles, only to encounter rejection due to my lack of pedigree from a prestigious institution. Despite initial setbacks, I persevered.
A turning point occurred when I crossed paths with my inaugural boss at a startup. Recognizing my potential, he offered me a chance as a programmer, breaking the cycle of rejection. This opportunity, though modest, proved to be a significant milestone. My boss assumed the role of a mentor, patiently guiding me in crafting high-quality code and instilling architectural best practices. His trust opened doors for me to explore cutting-edge technologies like Azure Cloud during its early stages of development.

What inspired the creation of AAHENT? Share insights into the foundational concept behind launching the venture and the primary domains in which it specializes.
Motivated by a wealth of experience, my desire to create a more far-reaching influence led to the establishment of AAHENT. The venture is dedicated to delivering tailored software solutions to a global clientele, with a concurrent emphasis on fostering community and extending opportunities to women in STEM. Initiatives such as the AAHENT WIT (Women in Tech) Fellowship program aim to make technology education more accessible. Our overarching mission is to harness technology as a catalyst for positive change.
What are the various roles and responsibilities you shoulder as the co-founder & CTO of AAHENT?
In my capacity as the Co-Founder and CTO of AAHENT, I take on diverse roles and responsibilities. I lead the charge in driving both business expansion and technological prowess within the company. This involves supervising solution architecture, engineering practices, innovation endeavors, and mentorship programs. Internally, I cultivate a collaborative culture, encourage idea generation, and nurture talent. Additionally, I serve as our brand ambassador at industry events, contributing as a thought leader. Overall, my focus is on keeping AAHENT at the forefront of technological advancements.
From your perspective, what do you consider to be some of the pivotal hurdles faced as a technology leader in the contemporary business landscape? How do you navigate these challenges effectively?
As a tech leader in today's dynamic environment, critical challenges encompass the swift evolution of technologies, cybersecurity threats, the ongoing wave of digital transformation and disruption, talent shortages, and the prevalence of misinformation about technology. To address these issues, I prioritize continuous learning to stay abreast of emerging tech trends. Change management and transparent communication are focal points in aligning teams amidst technological shifts. In terms of talent acquisition and retention, we emphasize providing exposure, continuous learning opportunities, and fostering an ideal work culture. Lastly, countering misinformation involves actively engaging in public forums to underscore the positive potential of technology.
Illuminate the most significant professional achievement you have reached during your career trajectory. What guiding principles or strategies have fueled your success over the years?
A pivotal milestone in my professional journey was earning the title of Wonder Woman in STEM, acknowledging the successful transition from humble origins to a leadership role in technology. Additionally, I had the privilege to visit prominent international tech companies such as Microsoft and Facebook. Representing India in a global tech challenge hosted by Johnson Controls further validated the realization of my aspirations. Throughout these experiences, my success has been underpinned by a combination of perseverance, patience, and a readiness to initiate from the grassroots, embracing a continuous learning approach.
