In an intimate interview with us, Ekkta Verma got us through her wonderful journey that is truly inspiring and also unveiled her most exclusive future journey for Wondrous.

What are some significant aspects of your personal and career journey?

In my journey, I was born and raised in Delhi, attending Lady Irwin school and initially aspiring to become an architect. However, my interests shifted, and I pursued fine arts at Jamia, excelling in my studies. I always valued creativity and detested memorization, which led me to explore diverse career paths like advertising and mass communication. I worked diligently in the advertising industry, quickly rising through the ranks to become a creative director at renowned agencies like FCB Worldwide and Dentsu. During my career, I successfully launched major brands like ITC John Players and Tata Docomo, gaining recognition for my work. Alongside advertising, I discovered a passion for writing, and penning poetry and songs for my brands. In 2017, driven by a desire for self-expression and independence, I founded ‘Wondrous’, an agency focused on delivering high-quality work and building lasting client relationships through brand building.

What inspired you to pursue entrepreneurship and create Wondrous? Elaborate on the fundamental concept behind your venture and the areas in which it specializes.

As for my decision to pursue entrepreneurship and establish Wondrous, there were a few driving factors. I noticed that industries were becoming monotonous and the joy of work was getting overshadowed by corporate hierarchies. I wanted to create a space where people could do interesting and meaningful work without being bogged down by excessive layers of bureaucracy. From brand persona creation to resonant communication, logo design to identity establishment, packaging, advertising strategy, and even brand jingles, we manage it all, handling your complete brand building. Our focus lies in creating effective communication strategies that encompass positioning and brand proposition, ensuring a compelling final message for the brand. Whether it's digital platforms, mainline media, outdoor ads, TV commercials, social media, or Google ads, we take care of all advertising avenues, excluding events and PR.

Throw some light on the key responsibilities you shoulder as the founder and Chief Creative Officer of Wondrous.

Over the course of my career, I've successfully launched and nurtured significant brands. Our speciality revolves around comprehending the consumer market deeply and crafting comprehensive communication strategies for brands of all sizes, ensuring a holistic approach i.e. brand building. We specialize in comprehensive advertising, from brand positioning and logos to transforming consumer behaviour. This could be done through Brand film, brand anthem, print campaign, social media film/campaign or so on. In short, our expertise extends to crafting impactful communication that surrounds consumers, influencing their behaviour and generating desire for any brand in the market. Or you may say, that being an advertising agency is akin to being a doctor for communication, specifically for brand communication. When brands approach us, we analyze their advertising needs, provide tailored strategies for success, and address communication challenges to promote enduring advertising progress.

What do you consider the most crucial obstacles in leading Wondrous, and how do you navigate through them to ensure success?

Well, I must admit, it's not as easy as it sounds. Along the way, I have encountered my fair share of setbacks and faced challenges, especially in relationships and business endeavours. However, these experiences have taught me valuable lessons and made me stronger and more self-assured. I owe much of my determination to my ambitious mother, who instilled in me the importance of independence from an early age. As a creative leader, I relish the chance to build new brands, tackle challenges, and nurture a loyal, supportive team. Their unwavering faith in me is a treasure I deeply value.

What are your future aspirations and goals for Wondrous?

Well, I've never really shared this with anyone before, but if you ask me about my vision for Wondrous, it's like that song 'When I grow older, I will be stronger.' My dream is to see the flag of Wondrous flying high among millions of agencies out there. I envision Wondrous growing to a significant size, not just because of numbers or money, but because of the sheer quality and purity of our work. My goal is for Wondrous to be remembered as one of the finest advertising agencies in the world. We manage the technical aspects, but it's creativity and vision that guide us to our destination.

With 23 years of experience in mainline advertising, Ekkta started at Lowe Lintas in 2001, handling brands like LG, Wills Lifestyle, and Nestle. Later, she moved to Draft FCB Ulka for 10 years, where she launched Tata Docomo and earned accolades, including the Effie Grand Prix. At Wondrous, Ekkta has earned many accolades and taking Wondrous to newer heights.
