Einas Mohammed: Leveraging Industry Expertise To Deliver Customer Satisfaction

Einas Mohammed
Founder & CEO

The biggest challenge in the jewelry industry is that the market for diamonds and precious stones is very wide and deep, and it needs constant research and knowledge, and insistence to keep pace with the wheel of development it is witnessing. A perfect design is not enough for a jewelry company to be well-known. Besides high standards, the certification of the jewelry adds to the benchmark of quality. Established in 2022, Gems & Metals Calibration Lab is the pioneer in highlighting the importance of jewelry certification in Qatar. It is the first laboratory specialized in examining and grading diamonds and precious stones, thus effectively contributing to accelerating development. Einas Mohammad is the Founder and CEO of Gems & Metals Calibration Lab and the first woman to step establish this kind of project in Qatar. She’s the owner of Zabarjad company holds the certification of all jewelry pieces with a certificate approved by HRD the Belgian Geological Institute in cooperation with the Gems and Metal Calibration Laboratory (GMCL), which is the first of its kind in the State of Qatar.

GMCL is currently in Qatar and also extends academic courses to train those who wish to examine and classify diamonds along with jewelry design courses as well. The company aims at unifying the market and proving Qatar’s expertise in gemology by raising awareness locally and globally. In an exclusive interview with Women Entrepreneur, Einas talks about the importance of jewelry certification and why it is an important aspect of jewelry design and her journey as an entrepreneur.

Describe your educational background and highlight specific career milestones.

The most important achievement in my career is that I graduated from the HRD Antwerp Institute in Belgium for the examination and classification of diamonds. After gaining 18 years of experience in the industry, I launched the first book in the Middle East. The first of its kind in Europe which talks about the history of diamonds. I had the honour of launching the Arabic version at the Qatar National Museum through a lecture I gave on the topic.

The book was later translated into English, in Belgium, in the presence of the CEO of the Belgian Geological Institute and the President of the Belgian Diamond Exchange. I am considered the first Arab to use her book as a reference in Europe.

What motivated you to establish Gems & Metals Calibration Lab? Tell us about the underlying idea behind the venture and some of its most unique features.

The biggest success I achieved is the development of this project, which I have studied for more than six years. It was an arduous journey to be true, establishing the first diamond testing laboratory in the State of Qatar. What prompted me to take the initiative in this project is my sense of responsibility toward the field of jewelry trade and design. It is my duty to transfer my academic experience to the Qatari market for the purpose of developing this sector and for it to be fully authentic, a certificate of the examination must be attached to each piece of jewelry, especially in light of the spread of industrial diamonds around the world.

"any art takes time to perfect & so is my advice to all aspiring designers that wish to pursue a career in the industry. I would say, do your research & train yourself as fine as you can so that your passion is as rewarding & satisfying"

What are your focus areas in terms of driving growth for Gems & Metals Calibration Lab?

One of the most important goals of the Qatar Laboratory was to be accredited by international geological institutes specialized in examining and classifying diamonds. Since there are only 3 major institutes in the world, we were able to sign a cooperation contract with HRD Antwerp.

Tell us about some of the key milestones you have achieved throughout your professional journey. What has been your success mantra?

Some of the key achievements that I have achieved are – becoming a Jury Member of the largest international competition for designers in Italy, an author of A Journey Through the World of Diamonds, in both English and Arabic, my company 'Zabarjad' Unique in the art of designing jewelry and precious stones for 18 years, established the first laboratory Gems & Metals Calibration Laboratory 'GMCL' in the state of Qatar. Behind all these achievements and many more in the way to come is my mantra of faith. I strongly believe that it is perseverance and patience and that God created the most powerful supernatural force in the universe, which is the mind, and we must invest it.

Drawing from your experience as a business leader, what advice would you give to young girls and women who aspire to become business leaders in the future?

A designer must study this profession before entering it and try to develop himself with training courses in jewelry design. The most important advice is to fight the challenges that the designer will face when starting the project with steadfastness, perseverance, patience, and determination. There are no shortcuts on the difficult road, only  you must have faith in yourself and your god to do it.
