Anexas Clinic is a Bangalore-based Paediatrics clinic which is founded in 2009 for providing good, affordable and effective medical care to all children under one roof. Preventive healthcare is of vital importance in the normal growth and development of children, but most hospitals are more focused on illness and not on primary healthcare. Anexas Clinic, founded by Dr. Varsha Saxena, tries to bring the concept of preventive child healthcare with an urban perspective with the basic facilities for growth assessment, vaccinations, preventive health checks, counseling for social, cognitive development, nutrition, toilet training and adolescent health screening.

Dr. Varsha has completed her MBBS from GMC Bhopal, and after that, she pursued her MD in paediatrics from GRMC Gwalior. Before starting her own clinic, she worked with hospitals like Batra and Moolchand Hospital in Delhi and many other renowned hospitals in Mumbai, Chennai, and Bangalore. Having more than 30 years of working experience, Dr. Varsha is running her clinic with the aim of providing effective medical care to children.

Take us through your early education and your prior industry experiences.

Talking about my educational journey, I completed my MBBS from GMC College in Bhopal and later on, I completed my MD in Paediatrics from the GMRC College in Gwalior. After completing my studies, I started my practice in hospitals like Batra and Moolchand Hospital in Delhi, and in my 30 years of professional journey before I started my own clinic, I have worked with various hospitals based in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and Bangalore. After taking enough knowledge and experience, I established my own clinic, which is known as Anexas Clinic in HSR layout in Bangalore. Apart from my clinic, I have also been instrumental in running Anexas Consultancy, a training and consulting company which was established by me and my husband in 2006, providing process improvement services to many hospitals world wide. Now,, we have offices in four different countries and have been running our own training programs worldwide.

What motivated you to establish Anexas Clinic? Tell us about the underlying idea behind the clinic and its most unique features?

Anexas Clinic was started in 2009 with the vision of improving the health of children with preventive healthcare, which is one of my motivating factors to start my own clinic because most childhood diseases are self-limiting and only require simple medicine and patience from the parents. Most corporate hospitals focus on bed occupancy rate to assess the success of the hospital, but at Anexas Clinic, we believe in health for all children through good nutrition and adequate opportunity for social and cognitive development. I believe this has become our most unique feature which makes us stand-out in the market.

What are the various responsibilities you shoulder, and what are the different services provided by the clinic?

While running a successful children’s clinic, it is not only the doctor’s responsibility, but also the paramedic staff should understand the problems faced by parents in dealing with childhood illnesses and take care of them with sensitivity. Ensuring this is one of my important responsibilities that I shoulder. I make sure that staff has been totally trained to attend to all queries of the patient and connect to the doctor whenever necessary.

Talking about the services, Anexas Clinic provides all the facilities for children’s health. Vaccination, Nutrition Counselling, Growth & Development Assessment, Paediatrician Consulting for childhood illness, and Development Paediatrician for children with special needs.

Talk to us about some of the major business challenges you face, and how you overcome those challenges?

Business challenges are immense in today’s world. Being a women entrepreneur, when your work demands 24x7 of your commitment and being a mother to a child with chronic illness make the task even more difficult, I had to struggle between my home and work. I have had my other challenges when I had to deal with competition from big corporate players who repeatedly tried to take-over my clinic and run it as a corporate setup. To overcome these challenges, I stood with time with perseverance and supported my staff completely even during poor business phases of covid, as I knew the practice will come back to normal.

What has been your most remarkable achievement so far and what would your advice be to young women who also aspire to become an entrepreneur?

Anexas Clinic is one of the most successfully running pediatric clinics in Bangalore and Anexas Consultancy is successfully running a training company for the last 16 years, which has successfully exported its servicearound the hospitals world wide. As a Rotary member along with Anexas clinic we have organized many free clinics for underprivileged children in Bangalore. I have also been associated with Samarthanam Trust for the disabled and have done many health checkups for the children. These are a few of the milestones I have achieved as an entrepreneur.

Most people will advice you to dream big to achieve greater heights, but I would like to give the message of dreaming big, but keep a track of your short-term goals. Take every day in your life as a challenge, plan your day, and keep your work focused on what you have planned for the day. These small steps of completing your daily commitment will be the stepping stones in your achievement.
