What drew you toward the field of dermatology?

I was born and raised in Bengaluru, and as an adolescent, I struggled with severe acne and polycystic ovarian syndrome. My pimples destroyed my self-esteem, preventing me from being myself. But everything

 changed when I met my dermatologist, who treated me empathetically and restored my confidence. That's when I decided I wanted to learn the art of healing the largest organ of our body, which is the skin.

Firstly, acceptance as a female doctor; even in this day and age, people believe that good doctors are always males, so they have to be reminded that I'm not a nurse; secondly, doctors, especially female doctors, cannot do business; this is something I want to prove wrong by providing the best affordable treatment at Ara; and thirdly, quackery; this is something within the system; there are no regulations, so anyone and everyone is treating the skin. This must be put an end to by raising public awareness.

Tell us about your success mantra as a business leader.

My success mantra for life is ‘Aut inveniam viam aut faciam’, which means ‘I shall either find a way or make one’, and my leadership mantra is very simple- ‘Everything has a greater potential’.

Drawing from your experience as a leader, what advice/message would you give to aspiring women leaders?

My advice to emerging female leaders is to pursue their passions while remaining curious. Never settle for the status quo, and always push yourself to acquire as much as you can. Learning when to speak up and not be afraid to share my thoughts has allowed me to progress from contributor to leader, which has been crucial to my success.
