Smile Krafters is a brainchild of Dr. Seema and her sister, Dr. Sneha Thakur. Being accomplished Dentists with 6 years and 10 years of experience in their respective specialization, the duo, together decided to start a Dental Clinic of their own in 2019. Empathy comes very naturally to me. I always wanted to train myself as the one who alleviates the pain and sufferings by providing treatment, however, the decision to become a Dentist was only final when I saw my sister foray into the same. She has been the constant driving force for me. She was even felicitated with a gold medal by the University in Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry, and that encouraged me further to pursue Masters in Endodontics & Restorative Dentistry.

The post graduate programme gave me an opportunity to learn a lot from my Professor and my Guide, Dr. Vimala Nilker. She not only helped me upskill as an Endodontist but also taught me a great deal about work ethics and discipline. Under her guidance I published my articles in various International Journals and finished my Thesis and Dissertation.

To widen my horizon in the field of dentistry, I then went on to pursue Fellowship in Oral Implantology & Laser Dentistry, under the guidance of Dr.Suchetan Pradhan. The extensive fellowship programme taught me that adaptability should never be intimidating for a surgeon! We, at Smile Krafters practice the same expertise and attention to safety guidelines and protocols encouraged by these stalwarts.

However, most importantly it was my parents' support and guidance that helped me become who I am today. My parents who emphasized and encouraged me on having a proper education and impressed upon me the virtues of hardwork and commitment over personal gain, continue shaping my belief till this day.

Being a visionary I visualize my clinic being at the forefront in the healthcare sector, so I pitch various roles like casting the organisation's visions, aligning, training and motivating the staff.

Leadership roles aren't always the easiest and I still have to learn a great deal about the act of helping my employees flourish personally so they can enrich my practice with their efficiency.

Any Piece Of Advice For Young Women Aspiring To Foray Into The Field Of Medicine And Dentistry?

Being a woman, venturing out in Medical and Dental practices and committing to work can be challenging but it can be incredibly rewarding and empowering too!  Every aspect of a procedure in Dental practices, from the first incision or drilling that first punch cut to seeing a patient recover, the whole process can be inspiring, enough for you to do nothing but put your best foot forward or in a healthcare professional's case, put the best hand forward!

The barriers against female leadership and career advancement are too deep rooted in our society but what is important is that we don't give up.  Remember, failure is not the opposite of success, it's a part of success. We may have to face and manage failures, but if we're consistent no force will be able to defer our determination!
