Logistics intermediaries manifest in diverse variations and go by varied appellations, yet their common objective remains consistent: furnishing assistance to enterprises in matters concerning transportation, storage, shipping, and the delivery of commodities from vendors to purchasers or end consumers, naturally, in exchange for a specified remuneration. Actrans Global Services, a division of the Active Group of companies, is making its foray into the logistics sector with the aim of establishing itself as a prominent provider of holistic logistics solutions. The company offers an extensive range of services, including integrated logistics, international freight forwarding, transportation, and project logistics, catering to a diverse clientele. Diksha Jain, the Director at Actrans Global Services, starts each day with the commitment to enhance and deliver impeccable logistics services to their valued customers.

During a personal and candid interview, Diksha opened up about the inner workings of her company and shed light on how her organization stands as a standout in the logistics service provider industry.

What are key aspects of your personal life and professional trajectory?

In the realm of logistics, particularly focused on road transportation, my engagement stems from practical experience gained during the pandemic, when I collaborated with my father's company. This exposure illuminated the disorganized nature of the road transportation sector and the pivotal role played by truck drivers as the company's representatives. Motivated by the desire to instigate change, I pursued studies in international business, exploring the logistics landscape in more developed countries like the UK. Prior to this, my academic journey began in Bangalore, where I pursued a bachelor's degree in finance after completing secondary education. Also, my MSC in international business gave me perspective about a lot of things missing in India’s transportation industry which I look at resolving in my own little way that I can by improvising the nature of treatment of labour class etc. This hands-on experience propelled me to establish a more comprehensive organization, encompassing various facets of the supply chain, such as warehousing, road transportation, and packaging. Seeking further growth, I pursued a master's degree at the University of Warwick, delving into warehouse operations to better comprehend supply chain intricacies. Upon returning, I wholeheartedly dedicated myself to our company, embracing the challenges and opportunities inherent in the dynamic logistics industry.

Discuss your honed expertise and how your past logistics experience fortifies your current leadership abilities.

During my time at Active Enterprises, I worked closely with my father and focused on road transportation, while also exploring the field of freight forwarding. Although my father managed freight forwarding, I envisioned a future where direct interactions between clients and shippers would eliminate the need for intermediaries. I believed that over the next decade or two, the role of middlemen would diminish as clients sought to retain more of their profits. Shifting my attention to road transportation, I recognized substantial growth potential. The ongoing investments in India's infrastructure and the government's commitment to the logistics sector indicated its significance for the next 10-20 years. Addressing challenges became imperative, especially considering that many drivers lacked awareness and education about the logistics process. Beginning on a small scale, we managed to expand to almost 100 trucks and trailers within a few years. As we grew, finding driver-focused solutions became paramount.
