One such exceptional woman leader is Anja Vasic El Haber, a recruitment expert. She founded A2MLConsulting with a clear understanding that finding top-notch talent is as elusive as it is essential. Anja believes that identifying the best candidates from a scarce talent pool is crucial. Many recruiters still see talent acquisition as merely hiring, but it requires a strategic approach to select professionals who not only excel in their niche but are also the right fit for the company. After all, the right candidates can make all the difference for a business. With this perspective, Anja established A2ML Consulting.

Could you take us through your educational journey and the early years of your life? 
Originally from Serbia, I’ve spent much of my life abroad due to my parents’ international careers. Growing up across different countries and cultures allowed me to deeply appreciate the richness in diversity in behavior, lifestyles, or traditions. This exposure helped me cultivate strong communication skills and the ability to understand the motivations of the people I interact with. I graduated from a British high school in Lebanon and went on to earn a BA in commercial law in Serbia, followed by Masters in International Business and Marketing. My multidisciplinary education, spanning a law degree, two years of performing arts, and a master's in international trade, alongside practical on-the-job training across various industries, shaped me into a flexible, adaptable professional. This diverse foundation fuels my creativity and ability to thrive in different work environments, always bringing fresh perspectives. 

What were some critical junctures in your professional journey?
My professional journey began in our family business, where I was entrusted with significant responsibility early on, even as a student. This experience, which included managing relationships with international clients, was instrumental in building my self-confidence and teaching me the value of lifelong learning. Throughout my career, I've often had to craft strategies and solutions independently, yet always in alignment with the broader goals of the companies I worked for. These moments sharpened my ability to operate autonomously while maintaining a global perspective on business.

My extensive international experience has been a critical asset in breaking into the Dubai business scene. My ability to navigate diverse markets, coupled with a deep understanding of client needs, has been invaluable in sourcing the right talent, particularly in competitive industries. This experience has enabled me to build longlasting relationships, ensuring both client and candidate satisfaction.

What led you to establish A2ML Consulting, and what roles do you undertake there?
Founding A2ML Consulting was a natural progression in my career, driven by a desire to take on new challenges and apply my expertise in a more independent capacity. A2ML Consulting focuses on providing specialized recruitment services with a personal touch. As the Founding Partner, I oversee the strategic direction of the firm, ensuring that we remain aligned with our clients' needs while maintaining our values of quality and integrity. My role also involves managing client relationships, business development, and overseeing the recruitment processes, making sure every decision supports our vision of longterm success.

What challenges do you face as a leader, and how do you overcome them?
One of the most significant challenges I've faced is balancing my professional responsibilities with my personal life, particularly after becoming a mother. I made the decision to embark on my business leadership journey after having my son, which required me to develop a flexible time-management system that allowed me to be fully present both at home and in my business. This balance has brought me great personal satisfaction, and I’ve found that the happiness I derive from being present with my family has positively influenced my work, leading to even better results for my company.

As we look ahead, how do you see the recruitment space evolving?
Digital Transformation plays a big role in Recruitment processes, specifically the increasing role of AI. The demand for knowledge of new technologies like Smart Cities, sustainability, green energy and talent that poses this expertise. Also, the shift towards the hybrid work models and remote work is the new trend and more and more candidates now prefer to engage in such assignments. 

As a successful entrepreneur, what advice would you offer to aspiring women in business?
My advice for aspiring women entrepreneurs is to be resilient and cultivate a strong network. Building relationships is crucial, so don’t underestimate the power of networking in your industry. Also, be open to learning, whether from failures or successes. Each experience offers valuable lessons that shape your journey. Surround yourself with supportive mentors and like-minded individuals who inspire you to grow. Lastly, trust your instincts and don’t shy away from taking calculated risks. The business world can be daunting, but with determination and the right mindset, you can carve out your own path and achieve remarkable things.

Anja holds a Masters in International Business and Marketing from the European University Faculty of Business and Marketing, Belgrade, and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Law from the Faculty of Law, Union University. Before A2ML, she held key roles in talent acquisition and business development, including at Leman Project Management and Reaction PM.
