Alfa Priliana: Unleashing the Potential of Natural Beauty Products

Alfa Priliana
Founder, Rivya

There is no denying that we all wish to uphold our natural beauty for as long as possible. To achieve this, individuals are often inclined towards using superficial products, which may, at times, contain chemical components. In such circumstances, the quest for genuine, natural alternatives is obvious. With over a decade of expertise in managerial and executive roles, Alfa Priliana addresses the demand for natural skincare solutions through her renowned venture, Rivya. As the proprietor of this skincare manufacturing entity, Alfa is committed to aiding individuals in realizing their optimal selves. Her company prides itself on crafting products that are derived from nature, employing innovative manufacturing techniques, all while remaining remarkably cost-effective.

Having completed her bachelor's degree in public relations from the University of Pelita Harapan, Alfa Priliana started her professional journey as a Product Specialist of Tango Wafer with PT Ultra Prima Abadi (Orang Tua Group). She has also worked with prominent companies like Cushman & Wakefield and Astra Group before venturing into her own company Rivya – A Vegan Indonesian skincare that was built to help people to become the best version of themselves through a range of skincare products. In her early 30s, she became the Managing Partner and CEO of D’Cost Seafood Restaurant also CEO of Gold’s Gym Indonesia in 2023, leading thousands of people.

Coming from a humble family background, Alfa’s dreams were and are huge right from her childhood. She believes that people should never allow anyone to take away their dreams from their hearts and never give any reason as an excuse for not getting victorious.

Excerpts from an interaction with her:

How does your prior experience empower you to be a better business leader today?

We all know that a successful business requires a combination of various skills and all those business-specific skills I have learned from different companies I have worked with. I have learned brand building from the D’Cost Seafood Restaurant by fixing the company for more than 3 years as the CEO and Managing Partner. D’Cost Seafood Restaurant is the biggest seafood chain restaurant in Indonesia with almost 70 branches, and acquired communication as well as people management skills during my stint with Astra Group and Orang Tua Group, both are considered as top companies in Indonesia. I also sharpened my negotiation skills during my tenure of seven years with Cushman & Wakefield. This is how my prior experiences have helped me in becoming a humble leader and encouraged me to always lead from the front.

“My advice to every woman entrepreneur is that keep trying and never give up because it doesn’t matter how many times you fail but how many times you rise matters”

What motivated you to establish Rivya? Tell us about the underlying idea behind the venture and its key areas of specialization.

Since my teenage years, I have been struggling with my sensitive skin that was both dry and oily, also easily irritated. My quest in finding a gentle, non-harmful, and affordable skincare product was very challenging. I believe that it doesn’t matter whether you are rich or not, every individual deserves to be able to protect and maintain their natural beauty. So, in 2022 I decided to come up with my skincare products which are natural, non-harmful, and affordable. It will also help people with sensitive skin problems by providing innovative and compelling products at a very reasonable price.

What are some of the most critical challenges you encounter in terms of leading Rivya as the Founder? What steps do you undertake to overcome these roadblocks?

Definitely The Strategy, one of the significant challenges we face is competing with thousands of skincare companies with massive funding, whereas we at Rivya have limited capital. So, we always take every step very carefully, and at the same time, we always aim to differentiate ourselves from our competitors and increase our share in the market. Also, to help minimize costs, we need to first understand the customer’s needs and provide them with the effective solutions. We are also expanding our network to get better pricing and we continually explore different strategies to find what suit us best. To overcome such challenges, we constantly analyze data, research, and learn about the market to minimize our mistakes.

Tell us about the top three professional milestones you have achieved over the years.

During my management trainee program after my graduation, I was the first who was directly promoted to the position of Product Specialist after completing only six months as a management trainee. In less than a year, I was selected among the top three Product Specialists in nine business units competing against dozens of Product Specialists. At the age of 25, I became the youngest National Brand Manager in my division and in my early 30s, I was leading several business development projects and closing million dollars business deals at Cushman & Wakefield. At the age of 33, I was appointed as the CEO and Managing Partner of the biggest seafood chain restaurant in Indonesia and successfully turned the company around. Then in 2022, I founded Rivya together with my brother and the business grew within a year with more than 400 stores in ten provinces of Indonesia were selling our products.

What has been your success mantra as a leader? What advice that you want to share with aspiring women entrepreneurs?

The following three sentences sum up my success mantra as a leader as well as a human being. Doing my best is a sure thing. Relying on God is everything. Impossible is nothing.

My advice to fellow women entrepreneurs is that keep trying and never give up because it doesn’t matter how many times you fail but how many times you rise matters. Accept, love yourself, keep dreaming, and have faith in God because He has planned everything good for you in your life.
