By: Rachita Sharma, Managing Editor | Monday, 18 November 2024
Women make up nearly half the world’s population, however, they continue to be the marginalised community in almost all aspects of life.
Since the beginning of the modern world, women have been given the raw end of the deal when it comes to living a free and empowered life. From not having the choice to work to attain financial freedom to harmful stereotypes, women’s rights have often been curtailed.
With time women have fought back and are striving to gain their independence. The move towards a just and equitable world has been slow. But some regions have made remarkable progress. The UAE is one such region.
Traditionally a male dominated region, women in UAE have had to deal with gendered stereotypes and their resultant outcomes. However, the scenario is changing steadily. According to the World Economic Forum’s report, UAE was placed among one of the top countered globally for gender equality in 2023 report. UAE came in 22nd globally for women’s financial inclusion and political involvement. 64 percent of the graduates in UAE today are women, which itself is another great marker for the country’s success in empowering its women.
With a more educated and empowered female demographic, the change will also show in the workforce. It is imperative to make younger women believe that they can also have successful, long-lasting and fruitful careers. Highlighting existing women leaders and their journey towards professional success can play a key role in providing direction and motivation to aspiring women professionals.
