IIT Kharagpur: Strengthening India's Talent Pool

Nondescript towns often go unnoticed. However, for the sleepy town of Kharagpur in West Bengal, a watershed moment came in the year 1951. The Government of India established the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) in the small town and suddenly made it a seat of quality higher education for generations to come.

The educational institute is the very first of the IITs to be established by the Indian government and is recognised as an Institute of National Importance. The institute was initially established to train engineers after India attained independence in 1947.

Today, IIT Kgp is a public institute of technology research university which is ranked among the top colleges in India. It which has extended its academic capabilities with offerings in management, law, architecture, humanities. In 2019 the institute was awarded the status of Institute of Eminence by the Government of India.

Over the years IIT Kgp has produced some of the most prolific minds in science, technology and research. We introduce you to some such names in the current edition of Women Entrepreneur India magazine.

Women such as Suma and Priya are shining examples of talented leaders created by the prestigious IIT Kharagpur. The institute has strengthened India’s talent pool so far and will continue to do so in the years to come.
