In India, the connection between women and finance is a divine one. Not only is our revered Goddess Laxmi, the Goddess of wealth & finance, but women in India have also been the ones to hold the financial strings at home.
However, women’s relationship with finance beyond their household expense is not as rosy. For centuries, a majority of women did not work, could not amass wealth and were kept away from making major financial decisions at home.
But this perception is a thing of the past. Women in today’s modern India are reclaiming their finances. Be it being financially independent or financially educated women have been doing it all.
The rise of women in the finance field is an indicator of the paradigm shift in women’s relationship with finance.
A major role in motivating women to foray into the finance world is shining role models. Be it our finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, BSE legend Deena Mehta or the scores of successful women leading major financial institutions in the country, women are no longer in the background.
