4 October2022Editor NoteMore & More Women leaders Taking center Stage in Corporate& Entrepreneurial Landscape in Asia Its 2022! We no longer need to make the business case for achieving case for gender equality in all spheres of life and work. There is enough research material out there to prove the tangible benefits that a gender balanced, diverse and equitable workforce can bring about. Much more than a moral or ethical goal, a gender balanced workforce with equal participation from women in the workforce & leadership roles positively impacts productivity and profitability of organizations. Other than aiding performance, more women leaders facilitate a better quality of work environment for all.Women who form nearly half of the world's population are one of the most underutilized demographic when it comes to economic growth. More women in the workforce and positions of power holds the potential to contribute greatly to the global GDP. This is a no-brainer; more working women is a win-win for us all. Unfortunately the current reality of life is far removed from achieving gender balance in the workforce. If anything the global pandemic pushed more women to step back from the workforce. Specifically in the APAC context, women currently hold 20 percent of all managerial positions. While the number is much higher than what it was a few years ago, but it still leaves a great room for improvement. Research suggests that Eastern Asia has fared comparatively better in getting more women to join the corporate world. The number rose from 18 percent to 28 percent between 2000 and 2019. However, only 17 percent of the total middle management and senior management roles are played by women in the region. In the APAC region, Philippines, Malaysia, and Singaporehave fared better that their other Asian counterparts when it comes to having more women in leadership roles. Thailand, Indonesia, and Viet Nam led the pack with the highest number of women in boardrooms. The least we can say is that Asian countries are on the right track. A sincere effort has been made by the corporate entities and governments alike to build a more gender balanced workforce & leadership teams. Over the last few years more women leaders have been taking center stage in the corporate and entrepreneurial world. There is a new breed of young women leaders who are vanquishing all gender based challenges and rising up in the ladder to success.
