Irrespective of the sector, women's representation in the field of manufacturing has always been a cause for concern. Oftentimes, harsh conditions in the shop floors, long working hours etc were considered as reasons for looking at manufacturing as a man's job. But enough and more women have come forward to foray into the field of manufacturing to prove naysayers wrong; women can do anything that they set their minds too. The manufacturing industry has also evolved greatly because of women leaders coming in with their new perspective and fresh energy. However, their rise to the top in the world of manufacturing has not been easy. The current edition of WE magazine highlights the inspirational journey of several such women leaders who have redefined the field of manufacturing. Hear it from the horse's mouth. Zeal Shah, Director, Bare Body Essentials, says, "While the world is becoming more accepting of women in a leadership position, it was not the same case 10 years ago. I had to face several authority issues when I began in the manufacturing world. Beginning the journey in man's world did not come easy, but it did keep getting easier with time. I did not allow that to demotivate me, and while I have been a good listener, it was also important to make sure that I was heard".Maya Ramachandran, Director, Genlite Engineering also speaks about her experience, "Over the years, I have faced situations where people did not try to understand the value of the contribution of a woman in the industry, hence I would ask every woman who wants to step into leadership roles in core manufacturing or engineering industries to believe in herself. You know what you are capable of and be aware of your strengths and weaknesses. And do not let other people's judgments affect your performance".The edition also features Dr. Bindu Sathyajith, Managing Director, Polycolors International. She began her career at the age of 19 with The Taj Group of Hotels and became an entrepreneur running her own chemical unit that manufactures Pigment Paste and an Industrial Laundry Unit in Kerala. She is also working for the welfare of women and children through Eunatti Foundation.Anther prolific woman leader featured in this issue is Urvi Barot, Director, T3AM. With ten years of rich experience in the pharma machinery industry, Urvi holds technical expertise in the manufacturing of Fermentors, Process Vessels, and Reactor Vessels. Starting a business with small funds, courage, and positive vibes, today her company is a renowned manufacturer competing with prominent manufacturers in the same field and getting big projects. The issue also tells the professional success story of Keshavi Mehta, Director, Welset Plast Extrusions. She is a Psychotherapist, NLP Trainer, Coach, Healer, Tarot Reader Grapho therpaist, Artist and recently she did Exhibitions at Nehru Centre in Mumbai and Goa.Read through the issue to know more about these prolific women leaders.Do let us know your thoughts.
