India successfully defeated Australia in the opening warm-up match of the U19 Women's T20 World Cup held at the Steyn City School Oval where Captain Shafali Verma grabbed three wickets. In the beginning, India struggled while batting and managed to make a score of 97/8 in 20 overs against Australia. But in the second half, India's wicketkeeper Hrishita Basu led the team to make a score of 39-ball-28 to help the team members reach a respectable total.Shafali Verma (10), Richa Ghosh (11), and Archana Devi (11*) were the only Indian batters to make scores in double digits. India faced a tough time in running between their wickets as five of their eight wickets which included Ghosh and Basu were run-outs. Apart from these difficulties faced in the first half of the match, the second half became outstanding because of the bowling unit. Shafali Verma (4-1-8-3) and Prashvi Chopra (3-0-14-2) took five wickets together and restricted Australia to 79/7 to secure an 18-run victory. The next wicket-taker was Soumya Tiwari who finished with a record of 2-0-10-1. India's second warm-up match will be against Bangladesh on Wednesday.
