Known as the garden city, Bangalore's growth began post 1947, driven primarily by public policies initiated by the national government. Gradually, central public sector undertakings (CPSUs), industrial estates for modern small-scale industries, national government-funded public R&D institutions and public & private educational institutions were established in Bangalore. Forty years down the line and the city turned into an IT hub. The turning point was the entry of Texas Instruments and the establishment of various Bangalore-based information technology firms such as Infosys and Wipro one after the other. Then came the MNCs post liberalization and the emergence of IT industry cluster and a biotechnology industry cluster, by the late 1990s.As digital trends picked up gradual pace, Bangalore also saw the mushrooming of young and innovative startups. Given the city's conducive ecosystem Bangalore based startups experienced massive growth and today the city is short of being `the land of opportunity'. A big contribution in the city's growth has come from fearless and enterprising women leaders. These female leaders belong to various industries and have had unique growth journeys. But what unifies them all is the massive impact their work has had on creating a gender balanced workforce in the city of Bangalore. The current edition of Women Entrepreneur India magazine shines the spotlight on some of the most inspiring women leaders from Bangalore who have been creating a strong identity for themselves in their respective industries. On the cover page we have Roshni Shaheen co-founder of Bengaluru-based creative design agency Sikata Studio.
