4 AUGUST2022Editor NoteSignificant Rise in Women Employment in Traditionally Male Dominated Fields in Abu Dhabi Women all across the world are redefining gender stereotypes and taking on leadership roles in various industry verticals. Gone are the days when the corporate world was a man's playing field. Women of today are striving to become equal players in the corporate world across the globe. The scenario is changing even in the more traditionalist societies. For an instance women in Abu Dhabi who have historically struggled to advance in their careers and hold positions of leadership owing to a number of cultural and religious concerns are now successfully breaking that stereotype. For the longest time, traditions and societal restrictions hindered women from fully engaging in their country's economy and politics. But in recent years women are joining the workforce in troves and are also moving towards self-employment. The trend has significantly increased in Abu Dhabi, with women presently beginning new enterprises at a speedier pace than their male counterparts. All across the country women's economic security is being recognised as being vital to their wellbeing and empowerment. Women's empowerment in the country is becoming apparent and women are making up a significant portion of the workforce in Abu Dhabi.According to a recent survey conducted by LinkedIn, while the pandemic has had negative impact on women's success & participation at work, yet it has had somewhat of a positive impact on hiring of women in the UAE. The report said that women now constitute almost 37 percent of all new hires in the country, which is a 1.73 percent YoY increase.The biggest jump has been in the media and communications segment with 51.95 percent of new hires being women, followed by education (56.42 percent) and health care at 45 percent.Sectors such as IT, software, manufacturing etc which were earlier considered as male dominated fields have also seen a significant rise in women's employment.
