With the drive to become successful at the workplace becoming stronger, most professionals require an X factor that can differentiate them from the rest. While technical competence and knowledge is a key to success, yet the X factor that can drive an individual ahead in the game is if they master soft skills. Seldom spoken about, yet a critical asset to possess, soft skills include factors such as communication, empathy, personality traits and social cues among various others. Similar tonon-quantitative factors such as emotions or perception, soft skills are qualities that a person already possesses. However, with the right training these skills can be improved and fine-tuned which in turn can render the individual with a certain advantage in the workplace. A Korn Ferrystudy conducted in 2016 across 90 countries, found that women outperformed men in 11 out of 12 emotional competence skills. It was concluded that when companies integrate these capabilities into the workplace, employees' needs, experiences, and talents are identified, increasing workplace satisfaction and company success. Research also found that women tend to exemplify a strong sense of awareness; which allows them to pick up on smaller nuances while learning about and understanding their workers from a wider perspective. This awareness can prevent interpersonal conflicts, as a leader who observes and knows her team can see a problem developing and address it before it flares up.
