One of the most startling realizations to have come out of the pandemic is the need for our country to strengthen its healthcare, pharma and life-science abilities. With the pandemic ravaging through various parts of the world and the country, a large part of the population was constricted to the confines of their home. With the need for physical distancing came several other healthcare challenges such as inaccessible physician & diagnostic support and disrupted supply chains among various others. The tough times also rattled the life science industry to fortify its defense against the pandemic by strengthening its drug discovery, releasing self-diagnostics/POC kits, conducting clinical trials and launching therapies. While earlier each of these required ample time, yet now the solutions were required immediately. But as is said, `when the going gets tough, the tough get going'; India saw a host of innovative life science & pharma players rise to the challenge. From developing smart ventilators that reduced lung damage & sped up its use time to digital advisory platformsto digitized sanitation and AI based automated system that detects the severity of pneumonia, there sprang up requisite solutions for every single need of the time. The Pharma& Lifescience industry deciphered the industry's pinpoints and developed cost effective solutions & products to remedy them at breakneck speed. The industry has since gathered all arms and is now stronger than ever. Of late India's Pharma and Lifescience sector has become the testing ground for innovations. There has been a sharp rise in drug approvals. Digitization has also redefined the various avenues for companies to market their products effectively. The industry which was earlier marred by regulatory and economic challenges has now been receiving ample support from the Indian government. The government has undertaken various steps to facilitate the swift growth of the industry by rendering federal grants for vaccine creation and distribution. There has been a particular emphasis on bringing these drugs and innovations to the rural populations as well.
