4 OCTOBER2022Editor Note70 Percent Rise in Number of Students Enrolling In English-Medium K-12 International Schools across India Education is one of the primary needs for one to build a successful life. It's no surprise that parents look out for the best possible education that they can provide to their children. As a consequence International Schools have risen to popularity across the world and likewise in the Indian market. Let's examine the enormity of this development. Experts believe that the number of International schools in India has almost doubled over the past decade. The number of schools has significantly increased from 313 in 2012, to 469 in 2022. Simultaneously the number of students enrolling in said schools has also shot up significantly. According to Research by International School Consultancy, there has been a 70 percent rise in the number of students enrolling in English-medium K-12 international schools. This number has grown mostly in the last five years. India has the 6th highest with number of students enrolled in international schools under IB curriculum. The roots of this growth can be traced back to 1990s when India's economy opened its doors to the global economy. With liberalization came prosperity and globalization. Parents with ample resources were on the lookout for an education that could place children in the international race. More and more affluent families want their children to be enrolled in international-oriented curriculum. This can help provide said children with the requisite repertoire of skills to successfully pursue higher education and professional careers internationally. Today Indian education is swiftly evolving by collaborating with international institutions for education from pre-primary to university levels. One of the major challenges being faced by International schools is in terms of onboarding skilled teachers. But leaders with the right vision and go-to-market strategy are well positioned to address such challenges and much more.
