8 SEPTEMBER2024US Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women's Issues, Dr. Geeta Rao Gupta, is set to visit India from September 11-16 to strengthen bilateral relations and advance the US-India Alliance for Women's Economic Empowerment. The visit will focus on tackling gender-based violence and enhancing collaboration on issues related to gender equality, health, and education. Dr. Geeta will co-host a meeting of the alliance, including key partners like the US Department of State, USAID, and the American India Foundation.The meeting will be graced by prominent delegates including Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu and USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator for Asia Anjali Kaur. The alliance is set to hold its first in-person meeting on women's participation in the corporate workforce, STEM education, and entrepreneurship in India. Ambassador Geeta will address gender-based violence in public spaces, and speak at the USIBC Ideas Summit Panel 'Leading the Charge: Women Pioneers Shaping the US-Indian Corridor.' She will further meet government officials to discuss women's safety from gender-based violence (GBV) and engage in talks for the Dindigul Agreement with private sectors, labor, and civil society firms in order to foster women's safety. In addition to this, Dr. Geeta will deliver keynote remarks at the POWER Seminar in New Delhi on 'Empowering Women: Unveiling the Importance of Public Transport Facilities.'The visit aims to enhance economic opportunities for women in entrepreneurship, education, and health. She will advocate for gender equality through policy reforms, social empowerment programs, and violence reduction. The Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ladies Organization (FICCI FLO) and the Philippine Women's Economic Network (PhilWEN) have partnered to boost trade and investment between India and the Philippines. They held a bilateral business meeting, urging for strengthened economic relations. The collaboration aims to empower women entrepreneurs, facilitate cross-border opportunities, and create a conducive environment for women-led businesses. The 16-member delegation from the Philippine Women's Economic Network is currently in India.The India Philippine Business programme, led by the India ASEAN Women's Business Forum (IAWBF), promotes women's participation in startups, SMEs, leadership roles, and marginalized communities in the Philippines, launched by Smt, Sushma Swaraj in 2017, whereas Ms. Maria Cristina Cunepcion heads the PhilWEN delegation. The Philippine delegation visited the FICCI FLO industrial park in Hyderabad, where 100 per cent of women-owned units are located. A B2B meeting was held, with two FICCI FLO members honored and two exemplary women leaders recognized from the Philippines.Ms Joyshree Das Verma, National President, FICCI FLO mentioned that the Indo Philippine business women meet is a step forward in strengthening business ties and building lasting friendships across borders. FICCI FLO and IAWBF share a common goal of promoting trade and investment between India and ASEAN countries, particularly through women entrepreneurs, to deepen economic relations, foster new business opportunities, and elevate women's leadership.
