Her appointment will be effective from 19 June 2024 until she attains the age of superannuation or until further orders.Girija is a statistics graduate, and a fellow member of the Insurance Institute of India and Chartered Insurance Institute, London. With 34 years of experience, she worked in various reinsurance departments including business, aviation, life, health, and property. She has also served as the CMD of AIC of India in 2022. Girija Subramanian will act as the first female CMD of the new India Assurance Company. She has a strong background in finance and insurance, including underwriting, claims management, and risk assessment. She oversees the company's strategic direction, ensuring financial stability, enhancing customer experience, and driving innovation.New India Assurance Co. is India's leading general insurance company, offering reliable coverage for individuals, families, and businesses. With offices across the country, they understand regional insurance needs and prioritize trust, delivering comprehensive insurance offerings and prompt claims handling.Syngene International partnered with the Research and Innovation Circle of Hyderabad (RICH) have launched the second cohort of its Women in STEM program, providing scholarships and mentoring to women studying STEM at tier 2 and 3 institutions in India. The initiative aims to address challenges like dropout rates and limited career opportunities faced by women. 30 women have been selected for scholarships and industry orientation, enabling them to gain experience in research institutions and companies, fostering an inclusive environment in science and technology.The program was driven by the Research and Innovation Circle of Hyderabad, Biocon Foundation, and Syngene Scientific Services Out of 549 applications, 216 profiles were shortlisted based on academic merit, socio-economic background, and STEM disciplines. Interviews with 151 students assessed achievements and research interests. The second cohort identifies 30 women, 10 from undergraduate and 20 from postgraduate programs.The Syngene/RICH program aims to address dropout rates and limited career opportunities among women in STEM programs by offering scholarships and mentorship. This program provides internships and practical experience in top research institutions, reducing financial burdens and providing career guidance.
