However, they still remain one of the most underutilized demographic when it comes to economic growth. Bringing more women in the workforce and onto positions of power has proven to contribute greatly to the global GDP. Unfortunately the world is still a long way from achieving gender balance in the workforce. On the contrary, the global pandemic pushed more women to step back from the workforce. Specifically in the APAC context, women currently hold 20 percent of all managerial positions. While the number is much higher than what it was a few years ago, yet it leaves a huge room for improvement. Research suggests that Eastern Asia has fared comparatively better in promoting more women to join the corporate world. The number rose from 18 percent to 28 percent between 2000 and 2019. However, only 17 percent of the total middle management and senior management roles are played by women in the region. In the APAC region, Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore have fared better that their other Asian counterparts when it comes to having more women in leadership roles. Thailand, Indonesia, and Viet Nam led the pack with the highest number of women in boardrooms. The least we can say is that Asian countries are on the right track. A sincere effort has been made by the corporate entities and governments alike to build a more gender balanced workforce & leadership teams. We bring to your attention some upcoming women leaders of repute in the Asian region. In this edition, we introduce you to Pooja Bagri, a renowned figure in the world of leadership coaching.
