9 JUNE2024IN FOCUSAccording to a recent study conducted, companies still lack to bring gender parity in senior management roles, but hiring rates for leadership levels among women have increased to 23.2 per cent across sectors in early 2024. Notably, the percentage of women hired for leadership roles has increased significantly over time, reaching a peak of 25.2 percent in 2021 from 18.8 percent in 2016. However, the percentage of women in senior leadership roles slightly decreased to 18.3 percent in 2024, recorded 18.7 percent in 2023 indicating ongoing efforts to increase women's representation in leadership positions.LinkedIn data reveals a significant increase in women employees, from 23.9 percent in 2016 to 26.8 percent in 2024. Aditi Jha, LinkedIn India Board Member, Country Head: Legal and Government Affairs mentioned, "LinkedIn Economic Graph data shows that despite progress, women still face obstacles in reaching leadership roles due to bias, societal norms, and structural barriers. However recent focus on `women-led development' has led to concerted efforts by policymakers and business leaders to tackle these challenges."Women in leadership roles face numerous challenges, including gender bias, work-life balance, lack of representation, unequal pay, networking challenges, imposter syndrome, double standards, isolation, and unconscious bias. Stereotypes and preconceived notions about women's abilities can hinder their progress, while work-life balance can be challenging. Overcoming these challenges is crucial for women to excel in leadership roles, and organizations must actively create an inclusive environment.
