4 AUGUST2022Editor NoteIIM Bangalore Lives up to its Motto, `Let Our Study Be Enlightening' When the British finally quit India in 1947, they left behind a nation struggling to stand on its own feet. Marred by social, political and financial upheaval, the newly independent India needed visionary leadership and strategic growth to help bring growth & development in all sectors of the nation. A major piece of this puzzle was to strengthen indigenous science and technology, which was gradually worked upon. Once a solid technology foundation was set, our visionary leaders realized that soon enough the country would require requisite management talent and resources. Upon recommendation from the Planning Commission of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation of the first Indian Institute of Management in 1961. Thus, IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta came to being. Almost a decade later, in 1973, the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore was established. Pt Nehru might not have envisioned back then, that these IIMs would gradually go on to become the seat of learning, growth and prosperity for the country. In the modern world, IIMs have become the Numero Uno management institution in the country. IIMs produce some of the most prolific business leaders and innovators year after year. Several Indians aspire to gain that prestigious seat in one of the IIMs, a task considered close to a Herculean Feat. IIM Bangalore is one of the most prominent IIMs in the country. Established with the motto of gaining enlightenment through studies, IIM Bangalore envisions being `a global, renowned academic institution fostering excellence in management, innovation and entrepreneurship for business, government and society'. The institution has a long list of illustrious alumni; the list only gets longer every year. The current edition of Women Entrepreneur India magazine focuses on some such women leaders who are alumni of this prestigious institute.
